THE HEARTACHE TRINITY

After having worked together on several film sets, Marc and I developed a strong friendship rooted in our similar artistic interests. When he introduced me to his work-in-progress project, I knew I wanted to take care of the creative direction. The Heartache Trinity is the debut musical project of the Catalan singer-songwriter and actor Marc Baltà. Drawing from his background in English literature and professional acting, the project channels a lyrical universe that is bucolic, mythological and deeply exploratory of queer romance and heartbreak.

The Approach

Raw, vulnerable, and intimate, those were the main indications from Marc. Our approach to the three-part album covers was to show Marc in his most private setting, his bed. Because each song reflects a distinct love experience, we chose to reenact each scene in this same bed using different physical elements to change the narrative. To accompany the music, we developed a song booklet that pairs typography with a series of fine-art nude photographs. By playing with blending modes, we created new body shapes that mimic the emotional distortion of heartbreak. Some of this nude photography was shot entirely on film, adding an extra layer of organic texture and nostalgia to the final physical package.
